The Nanni 5.250TDI has been out of production for many years. Fortunately, Nanni offers a suitable modern replacement: the N4.80 engine.
So what’s Involved in the Changeover?
Switching from a 5-cylinder to a 4-cylinder engine requires some adjustments. Below are the key considerations:
Engine Mounting & Alignment
- If the gearbox model remains unchanged — the gearbox coupling will align with the existing shaft coupling.
- The rear mounts can be used from the existing bell housing on the 5.250TDI to keep the bed width at 470mm.
The front mounts can be altered in-house to suit the 470mm bed width.
Engine Bed & Dimensions
| 5.250TDI | N4.80 | |
| Engine bed width | 470 mm | 410 mm |
| Engine length | 1041 mm | 956 mm |
| Base of engine foot (below crank line) | 83 mm | 81 mm |
Exhaust & Connections
- Exhaust diameter: 5.250TDI: 80 mm / N4.80: 76 mm
- Water intake: Both engines are 32 mm
- Fuel lines: Both engines are 8mm feed and return
Cables & Controls
- Battery & control cables: Can be reused if correct for original installation.
- Throttle control: May require changing from push to pull; this can be achieved by switching the cable in the control head.
Panel & Loom
- The new panel and loom are plug-and-play; the only addition is that you may require a trim plate depending on your old panel type.
